Notes | This Byzantine coin of the Emperor Alexius III (1195-1203) is concave in shape. It has been suggested that this was a sign to its users that it was made from debased metal. Despite its coppery colour, this trachy (as it was called) actually contains around 2% silver. | | Presented by W Scott, 1877. |
