Basic Information

Accession Number:1885M1153
Collection:Applied Art - Glass
Date:1700 - 1750

This goblet and cover was press moulded, which is a relatively modern process making full use of mechanisation. A ball of molten glass is placed in the bottom of the mould body and a plunger 'presses' the glass into the shape of the mould. In this case the glass has also been cut, wheel engraved and gilded in places.

Purchased from the VandA, with monies from the Industrial Art Museum Fund, 1872.
