Notes | One of several studies for drapery in Birmingham's collection, originally part of a sketchbook. This may be a study for St Cecilia, patron saint of organists, who was often depicted throughout the history of art with a portative organ in her arms. This study shows a figure with a slight sketch of a nimbus around the head, and arms stretched out as though playing a keyboard. | Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903. |
