Notes

A study for a cartoon of St Catherine of Alexandria, a third-century virgin martyr. In her left hand, she holds a long branch of palm, as a token of her victory over her death on a spiked wheel, seen faintly on the right, her hand gently resting on top. This may be an early study for the cartoon for St. Mary's Church, Bloxham.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
