This is a study for the 1867 watercolour now at the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery, Bedford. On the back of the sheet is an earlier sketch of 1852 of Dante for the watercolour 'Giotto Painting the Portrait of Dante' (Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection).
