A study for the fourth painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey.

In the finished painting the soldier is shown in profile. The original oil painting of 1866-67 is now in the Collection of Lord Lloyd Webber.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
