Notes

A study for the final painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey.

One of thirteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. The two upper studies are for the left arm of the princess; the lower left study is for the hands of the girl in the centre foreground scattering flowers; and the large study, centre right, of hands holding a pipe is for the figure of the girl on the extreme left of the painting.

The final painting is now in the collection of Bristol City Art Gallery.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
