A study for the final painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey.

One of thirteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. The lower study is for the figure of the girl playing a pipe on the left of the painting although somewhat altered in the final version.

The final painting is now in the collection of Bristol City Art Gallery.
