A study for the final painting in the series of seven canvases illustrating 'The Story of St George' for the dining room of the artist Myles Birket Foster, at Witley, Surrey.

One of thirteen studies for this subject in Birmingham's collection. The pose of the girl on the left in this drawing corresponds to the final version of a girl playing a pipe, while the left figure seen from behind was not used.

The final painting is now in the collection of Bristol City Art Gallery.

Purchased and presented by subscribers, 1903.
