Notes | The Pre-Raphaelite watercolourist G. P. Boyce, who bought this drawing at an auction sale in 1886, wrote on the back of the work that the sitter might be a Miss Gregson. Subsequent studies, however, have suggested that the sitter might be Miss Ryan, the professional model who sat to Millais in 1852 for The Hugenot.
