Notes | The oil painting for which this is a study was commissioned by the Duke of Wellington in 1816. The artist thought it would take two years, but it was not in fact finished and exhibited at the Royal Academy until 1822. The set of four studies mounted on one sheet belong to a late stage in the planning of the composition, as they relate closely to the finished painting. The painting now hangs in the Yellow Drawing Room at Apsley House. | | Presented by John Postle Heseltine, 1915. |
