Notes | This Greek gold brooch was found in the Crimea, 425-400 BC.The mythical animals are a griffin (half lion, half eagle) and a hippocamp (a sea horse). At the end of the catch plate is a pomegranate.All of these figures are hollow and made from very thin sheet gold. This means that they are fragile and the brooch would not have survived everyday use.
