Notes | This is one of a number of drawings in the collection executed on pages from the same notebook with the watermark 'Joynson 1855.' Betty Elzea has identified the sketch as a copy of an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi after Raphael's 'Martha leading Mary Magdalene to Christ.' Sandys has sketched the group of apostles on the right of the composition (Frederick Sandys 1829-1904: A Catalogue Raisonné, p. 144). | | Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927. |
