Notes

According to Betty Elzea this is a drawing of an Italian maiolica ewer, c. 1510, decorated with the arms of the Medici family (now in the Victoria and Albert Museum) ('Frederick Sandys 1829-1904: A Catalogue Raisonné,' p. 151). Sandys traced the ewer from the illustrated catalogue of the Bernal collection published in 1857. His patron James Bulwer is known to have had a copy of the catalogue in his library.
