Notes

Betty Elzea suggests that the tracings of the man wearing a wig and the two children have been copied from engravings ('Frederick Sandys 1829-1904: A Catalogue Raisonné,' p. 152). The middle drawing appears to be a slightly larger sketch of the face of the child on the far right. Formerly attributed to Ford Madox Brown.

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
