Notes | One of eleven tracings in Birmingham's collection for 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'
This study is misidentified by Whitley in his 1939 Catalogue, as being of 'Cupid flying to Olympus to beg for Immortality for Psyche'. It is actually the left portion of the composition relating to for 'Cupid Flying by Night to his Palace, as Psyche Awaits Him' (1927P601). This sketch is identified using the the completed studies located in the 'Cupid and Psyche' sketchbook also in Birmingham's collection (1927P648).
