From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'.

A single design of the musicians was cut, based on the figures on the right of this study. The figure playing the double pipes was replaced by one playing a harp in the wood engraving.
