From a bound volume containing 86 studies for illustrations to 'The Story of Cupid and Psyche' made to accompany the poem in William Morris' 'The Earthly Paradise'.

A more finished study than 1927P648.1 and was probably the basis for Burne-Jones's oil painting of c.1869-70 'Venus Anadyomene' (Venus rising from the Sea) now in a private collection.

Bequeathed by James Richardson Holliday, 1927.
