Notes | This ornate hand painted and gilded truncheon displays the royal arms, which denotes that the constable worked under the authority of the crown. The arms, crest and motto of the Holtes of Aston and an unidentified coat of arms represent the area of authority within which the constable worked. The families are identified by different heraldic symbols, for example the motto 'deus pascit corvos' (God feeds the ravens) and the squirrel is that of the Holte family. The initials are those of the constable and identify the owner to prevent misuse. | | Presented by R T Mole, 1931. |
