Notes | Previously attributed to Marcus Ghaeraedts (1561-1635), the artist of the painting is currently unknown. It depicts two young brothers in fashionable dress each holding a bunch of cherries. They are wearing blackwork embroidered 'falling band' collars with lace over their doublets. Cherries are sometimes associated with childhood and may symbolise the youth and innocence of the subjects. | | Presented by subscribers, 1931. |
