Notes | This is one of a group of small tempera paintings by Estella Canziani in the Birmingham Collection. They are particularly valuable in providing documentary information on the clothes and associated lifestyle of the local people living in remote villages in Northern Italy. The richness of colour and material in this mother and child study is memorable. Canziani also here, gives attention to the room in which the figures live, in particular showing what appears to be a wooden bed structure. | | Presented by Estella Canziani, 1931 |
