The ring brooch was commonly used as a method of fastening clothing such as a cloak in the late first millennium AD. It consists of a decorated copper alloy ring and a long pin. Folds of clothing were pulled through the ring and the pin pushed through, securing the cloak.This example has typically stylised zoomorphic and interlaced ornament, with four sockets for enamel- decorated infill.
