Moses Haughton worked as a decorator of papier mâché goods, enamels and japanned ware at Henry Clay's factory in Birmingham. He is known for his still-life, portraits, and paintings of dead game. His monument in St Philip's Cathedral records that, 'he neither sought popularity, nor courted patronage, but passed his days in obscurity, contented with the merit of distinguished excellence'.
