Notes | Van Goyen was a pioneer of Dutch realistic landscape painting. He settled at the Hague around 1632 where he remained until his death. His mono-chromatic landscapes in browns and greys with low horizons and clouded skies, appear to be based on the many drawings he made as he travelled about the countryside. | | Purchased, 1947. |
