Notes

This study was probably the basis for the tapestry design of 'The Ship', which is part of the Holy Grail Tapestries executed by Morris & Co., a version of which is in BMAG, 1947M52. According to Helen Proctor at BMAG, an expert on the Holy Grail Tapestries, the ship served as the smallest panel in the tapestry series that effects the transition from England to the Grail City. According to Proctor, Burne-Jones's studies for the ship were drawn from scale models.

Presented by Mrs Angela Thirkell, 1952.
