Notes

The main panel of this triptych depicts the meeting of Christ and Mary Magdalene after the Resurrection. Mary was the first to see the risen Christ and the title Noli Tangere, or 'do not touch me', were Christ's first words to her according to the Latin Vulgate account. The donor family is depicted on the wings of the triptych showing Henrick Joeszoen van der Stypen van Duyvelandt and his wife Marritgen, daughter of Dammas Simonszoen, with their sons and daughters. They have been identified from inscriptions on the back of the wings and from the arms on the signet ring worn by one of the male members of the family.

Purchased with the assistance of the National Art Collections Fund, 1952.
