This is one of a series of chalice and flower paintings by Jones made between 1949 and 1954 that evoke their subtle and ephemeral beauty.Jones worked mainly in watercolour and mixed media which he described as being about making 'lines, smudges, colours, opacites, translucencies, lightness, hardness, pencil marks, paintmarks, chalk marks, spit marks, thumb marks etc'.
