Notes | The pre-Roman peoples of central Italy made lots of bronze jewellery. Quite a lot of the brooches and other pieces are decorated with birds, like the three ducks on this example.Brooches were very important to the Greeks and the Romans because they tended not to wear clothes that were tailored to fit, like the clothes we wear. Instead they used rectangular pieces of cloth that were wrapped around the body and pinned in place with brooches. | Purchased at Sotheby's. |
