Notes | Published as one of 31 prints in Comte de Buffon's 'Histoire Naturelle', this image was drawn on copper plates by Picasso and etched in the sugar/ lift-ground method by Roger Lacouriere. These prints were rapidly worked on, at a rate of one print a day. Here the monkey, a traditional symbol of freedom and male sensuality, is unusually for Picasso on his own. | | Presented by the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, 1962. |
