Notes | This halfcrown of Charles I of England was minted in 1628-29, well before the Civil War with the Parliament that was to cost the king his head. We can tell when the coin was issued from the little anchor at the start of the legend on each side. This is one of a series of regularly changed symbols that let the government keep a check on the quality of the coins being made at the mint at any one time. | | Purchased from David Harkness, 1963. |
