Notes | This love spoon was carved in Wales over 150 years ago. The symbols carved on the spoon carry messages from the maker to his sweetheart.Love spoons have been made in Wales for at least 400 years. Each of the symbols conveys a different meaning allowing the maker to send a personalised message. This example has a keyhole - 'my house is yours' and a heart and key for 'unlocking love'. Sadly we do not know the name of the lady who would have received this spoon as the name space above the bowl of the spoon has been left blank. | | Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965. |
