This octagonal box was used to store food or possibly salt. It is hollowed out of the solid and decorated with chip-carved geometric and floral designs. An interesting feature is the carved 'X' on either side of the tulip. This marks the only spot where the lid will fit accurately.

Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965.
