Notes | 11 sycamore roundels in a circular beech box dating from around 1550 -1600.They are made from thin slices of wood, painted with strap work decoration and with a different moralising verse on each one. Roundels were used at large banquets and feasts where guests spoke or sang the verses painted on them. The box is painted with the Tudor coat of arms. | | Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965. |
