Notes | This pair of Spanish walnut candlesticks was made over 250 years ago. These candlesticks are carved with a double twist in the stem which would have required a considerable amount of skill to make. Wooden candlesticks were lined with metal to prevent them from catching fire.Unlike most wooden English examples, which were normally used in poor houses, this pair of Spanish candlesticks would have been used in the home of a wealthy person. | | Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965. |
