Basic Information

Accession Number:1965T4006
Collection:Social History - Pinto Collection
Date:1750 - 1875

Notes

This rare combination of a hornbook, doll and rattle dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is also unusual as the horn sheet is fixed to the doll by a leather frame, which means that the text can be changed, presumably as the child's knowledge increased. The text shown on this example is a later addition.

Purchased from Edward H Pinto, 1965.
