Notes | During the 19th century Edward Thomason (1769-1849) was Vice-Councillor to Birmingham on Russia's behalf, and this cup was presented to him by Tzar Nicholas I. In 1830 Thomason made a series of sixty large Biblical medals and presented a set to all the European sovereigns, in return for which he received this cup. A prolific producer of metalwares, in 1832 Thomason was the first Birmingham manufacturer to be knighted. | | Presented by the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, 1970. |
