This cage type mousetrap has two wooden sides nailed to a wooden base. The cage is formed by a series of metal rods fitted between the sides. The front of the cage is formed by a rectangular piece of wood fixed to the bars by two springs and has a long projecting handle, which sets the trap. The mouse enters the open cage, attracted by a bait of food which hangs on the metal hook, which also holds the handle in place. As soon as the bait is taken, the handle is released, the front of the cage snaps shut, and the mouse is trapped alive in the cage. There are other types of rat and mousetraps in the museum's Pinto collection, including drag weight and spring types. |
