Date:1876 - 1876

Artist:James Joseph Tissot - View biography for James Joseph Tissot

Notes

Printed in an edition of 50, 'Ramsgate' shows the continuing influence of Whistler, and in particular the Thames etchings. The site here is a house in Goldsmid Place, now Harbour Parade, in Ramsgate. Despite a topographical title, Tissot seems more interested in the elegant pose and finery of the female figures, with Ramsgate harbour very much in the background.

Purchased from P and D Colnaghi and Co Ltd, November 1972.
