Notes | This female figure has decorative scars all over her body. Certain parts of the body are exaggerated to emphasise the African idea of beauty.It is very difficult to say for certain how individual pieces of sculpture were used as this information was not always collected at the time. However a lot of African art functions as method of communication between people and supernatural forces and beings. They can ward off evil, bring fertility or make moral judgements. | |
