Notes | This medal was issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the institution of Sunday Schools on 14th September, 1831. Over 14,000 pupils, teachers and supporters, including both established church members and dissenters, assembled to give praise and celebrate the occasion. The Brotherly Society presented Mr James Lucock with a gold medal weighing 2 to 3 ounces, produced by Halliday, in recognition of his tireless commitment and his role as "Father of Sunday School Instruction in Birmingham".
This particular medal was one of many that were struck in white metal and presented in a morocco leather case to all members.
