This wood-engraved illustration, executed by Joseph Swain, accompanied a poem signed 'RM', appearing in the Cornhill Magazine (April 1862, p. 478):

Irené hears, for every spirit breath
That flits abroad is by Irené harkened;
And, reverent, she has knelt as mute as death
Beside the window since her chamber darkened.
