Notes | Birgit Skiöld was an internationally acclaimed artist who made a vital contribution to post-war printmaking in Britain. The basement workshop which she founded at 28 Charlotte Street, London became a central resource for artist-printmakers, while her own work was concerned with the natural world and the markings that set out a landscape. In 1970, the encounter with the gardens of Zen temples on a trip to Japan lead to a new found simplicity and economy of means, seen here in a series of colourless lines and a single block of restrained colour. | | Purchased from Anthony Dawson, London, 1979. |
