Notes | Archaeologists call this kind of pottery White Slip ware. It was made by hand, without using a potter's wheel. White Slip ware obviously appealed to ancient tastes just as much as it does to us today. Bowls like this were exported in huge numbers from Cyprus to Egypt, Syria-Palestine and Greece. Since it would have been difficult to transport anything in the bowls, they must have been popular just because they looked attractive. | | Transferred by the Trustees of the Wellcome Trust in accordance with an order of Mr Justice Foster, dated 21 March 1977. |
