Most Cypriot pottery of this time is decorated with horizontal lines or concentric circles. A few, like this jug, are painted in what archaeologists call the 'Free Field' style. On 'Free Field' style jugs the potters painted scenes right across the whole body of the pot. They painted birds, animals, people, trees and flowers. Birds are especially common, like this sea bird with a fish hanging from its beak.
