Notes | Caro was a leader in the development of 'constructed sculpture' in the 1960s. This is one of a series of table-based sculptures from the 1970s in which Caro explored ideas of balance and gravity with strips and plates of steel cascading from right angled edges. The paint partly disguises the material and unifies the metal construction into a single coherent form. | | Presented by the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery with assistance from the Victoria and Albert Museum Purchase Grant Fund, 1983. |
