Notes | Part of the ceremonial regalia worn by a member of a Birmingham Court of the Ancient order of Foresters Friendly Society around 1910. In 1790, when the society was formed there was no state funded system of relief, and voluntary friendly societies provided a means for people to save money to guarantee funds in the case of sickness and death. | |
