Notes | Unlike most evergreen trees, holly is classified as a hardwood. It is found throughout Europe, but as the tree is slow-growing and does not tend to grow very large, the wood is only available in small quantities. It is a dense and very close-grained wood which is excellent for producing engraver's blocks. Holly produces the whitest wood which is greatly favoured for using as inlay on fine furniture and marquetry. | |
