Saturday 4th July 1953'A beautiful day - Arthur and I went down on the canal side at Gas Street. This was in the morning'.Sunday 5th July 1953'The sun was shining early giving the promise of another lovely day. I went down to Gas Street Canal and spent a very interesting morning'.Sunday 2nd August 1953'Another lovely warm sunny day. Arthur and I set off early and went to Gas Street where I finished off my sketch of the buildings and canal. The view showing the tunnel under Broad Street with the Church spire behind all the buildings'. Extracts from the diaries of Frank Taylor Lockwood.The spire that can belongs to the Church of The Messiah, built in 1860-01, but demolished in 1974 to be replaced by a new meeting house on Ryland Street.
