Notes | This work is representative of Birmingham as a flourishing centre for watercolour painting. Baker's painting is of a traditional rural scene. However Baker has used washes, mottling and a vibrant range of colours in close proximity to each other. By scratching out the paint he has captured the texture of grasses growing on the buildings and in front of them. | Presented by the Friends of Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery in memory of the late Liesel Steinberg, 1999. |
