Beattie explores the expressive qualities of paint - its texture, fluidity, transparency and the endless variety of marks that can be made by scraping, brushing, drawing and pouring. His compositions often evolve from a simple architectural form; a tunnel, an archway, a pyramid in which he plays with ideas of flatness and perspective.
Here, the white paint was applied with his hands. The vertical strip is segmented into little sketches drawn through wet paint recalling the forms which have been the basis of his work for over two decades.
